Candle Care

Never leave a candle unattended. Don’t touch the jar while it’s burning. These are basic candle care tips. But there’s more to enjoying a candle than just lighting and blowing out the flame. Here are ways to help you get the most out of your favorite TRH candle...

1. We recommend burning our candles for three hours at a time.
A little known fact: The diameter of a candle is equal to the amount of time you’re supposed to burn it the longest. The Rustic House’s full-sized candles have a diameter of three inches, which equals three hours of burn time.
After three hours, our candles have a full burn pool; the candle is completely melted and scent is strongly diffused throughout a space.

2. Always trim the candle wick 1/4 of an inch after EACH burn.
Not trimming the wick after each burn causes the flame to elongate, simply wasting the candle by burning its wax too quickly.

A trimmed wick keeps the flame small and controllable. The candle wax doesn’t burn as quickly, elongating the life of your candle.

3. You don’t have to use a wick trimmer to trim your wick.
Regular scissors work just fine. If you don’t want to get your scissors dirty, simply break the sooty tip off with a tissue. Just make sure the wick and candle have cooled!

4. Recycle your glass when a half-inch of wax remains in the jar.
This will prevent possible heat damage to your counter or surface.
