Candle Care Tips

1. We recommend burning our candles for three hours at a time.

A little known fact: The diameter of a candle is equal to the amount of time you’re supposed to burn it the longest. The Rustic House’s 8 oz. glass candles have a diameter of three inches, which equals three hours of burn time. After three hours, our candles have a full burn pool; the candle is completely melted and scent is strongly diffused throughout a space.

2. Trim the candle wick to 1/4 of an inch as needed.

Our 100% cotton wicks are designed especially for our candle but may need to be trimmed occasionally.  A trimmed wick keeps the flame small and controllable. The candle doesn’t burn as quickly, elongating the life of your candle.

3. You don’t have to use a wick trimmer to trim your wick.

Regular scissors work just fine. If you don’t want to get your scissors dirty, simply break the sooty tip off with a tissue. Just make sure the wick and candle are cool when you are trimming. But if you want a really cool wick trimmer, we've got you covered.

4. Recycle your glass when a quarter-inch of wax remains in the jar.

Our candles are known for burning clean and even all the way to the bottom. A candle is completely burned when it reaches 1/4 of an inch from the bottom of the container. Our wicks are designed with that safety stop to prevent potential heat damage to your counters or surfaces.
